Dr Tanya Burgess is a fully qualified, Australian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon who has undertaken sub-speciality training in Hand, Wrist and Microsurgery.

After completing her Orthopaedic Training and Fellowship at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Dr Burgess subsequently undertook a further three years in internationally recognised Hand, Wrist and Microsurgical Fellowships in Coimbatore, India, Newcastle NSW and Paris, France.

Dr Burgess has presented at State, National and International Meetings including the International Symposium for Dupuytren’s Disease in Paris, the Australian Orthopaedic Society Annual General Meeting and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons ASM both as an invited speaker and discussing her current research.

Dr Burgess believes in collaborative approach to medical care and was instrumental in establishing the Multidisciplinary Dupuytren’s Clinic as well as participating in International Dupuytren’s research.

Dr Burgess has a public appointment as a VMO Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon at The Maitland Public Hospital, Belmont Hospital, the Royal Newcastle Centre and the John Hunter Hospital. Dr Burgess consults in Charlestown and operates privately at Lingard Hospital. Her interests include Dupuytren’s, Hand and Wrist arthritis, arthroscopy and trauma.

When not at work, Dr Burgess can be found on the beach with her husband and three children.

Dr Burgess is a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association and a Member of the Australian Hand Surgery Society, the NSW Hand Surgery Association and the European Wrist Arthroscopy Society, The International Dupuytren’s Society and The Australian Society for Orthopaedic Surgeons.
