Dr Sophia Roser (BSc, MBBS Hons, FRACS) is an Australian trained neurosurgeon specialising in brain and spine surgery for both adults and children. She is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia.
Dr Roser completed her medical degree at the University of Sydney and worked at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney and Wollongong Hospital before commencing neurosurgical training. After completing her training at several hospitals including Auckland City Hospital, Westmead Hospital, John Hunter Hospital and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital she was awarded her fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2020. Dr Roser has recently returned to Newcastle after spending 12 months undertaking post fellowship training in New Zealand at both Starship Children’s Hospital and Auckland City Hospital.
Dr Roser has expertise in brain, spine and peripheral nerve surgery and offers a wide variety of surgical interventions for these conditions. She has a particular interest in neuro-oncology, degenerative spinal conditions and pituitary surgery.
Dr Roser works in both the public and private sector. Dr Roser has a public appointment as a Visiting Medical Officer at John Hunter Hospital. She has regular consulting rooms at Newcastle Private Hospital and also consults in Coffs Harbour. Having grown up on the Coffs Coast, Dr Roser is passionate about providing neurosurgical care to the North Coast of NSW. She operates at Newcastle Private Hospital and Lingard Hospital.
