Dr Allan Davies has returned to the Hunter region after completing subspecialty training in mitral and aortic valve intervention at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals London, United Kingdom.

Dr Davies spent eight years in Brisbane at the University of Queensland, completing undergraduate degrees in Commerce and Science, before postgraduate medical school and he graduated from medicine in 2009. After working in Brisbane and Townsville as a junior resident, he moved to Newcastle in 2012 and undertook basic physician training and specialty cardiology training in the Hunter New England Health Network. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2017.

He then undertook a dedicated interventional cardiology fellowship at John Hunter Hospital in 2017, before moving to London in 2018 to undertake a joint research and interventional fellowship, in particular focusing on mitral and aortic valve intervention. The Royal Brompton is a specialist mitral valve centre, and Allan was able to learn cutting edge percutaneous techniques to treat mitral valve disease. He trained under the tutelage of Dr Rob Smith, who is the structural heart lead and runs the most experienced mitral valve team in the United Kingdom.

Dr Davies also maintains an active research program and while in the United Kingdom, published research with his supervisor Professor Thomas Lüscher. Allan holds honorary appointments with both Imperial College London and the University of Newcastle and still collaborates with colleagues in Europe and the United Kingdom. He is an Associate Editor of the European Heart Journal and is an Editorial Fellow for Heart, Lung and Circulation. His teaching commitments include acting as an Educational Supervisor for both basic physician trainees and cardiology advanced trainees at John Hunter Hospital. He is also an accredited Advanced Life Support Instructor for the Australian Resuscitation Council.

Dr Davies works at the John Hunter Hospital as an interventional cardiologist and participates in their successful program for acute myocardial infarction as well as supervising the rapid access clinic. He is available for consultations at Newcastle Heart and regularly performs cardiovascular procedures at Lake Macquarie Private Hospital and Lingard Private Hospital.
